Juan Maestre was the instigator of the series of contemporary posters

The painter and caballero maestrante Juan Maestre (1954-2006) was the instigator of the series of contemporary posters which was begun in 1994, as a result of the invitation to prominent national and foreign painters to produce seasonal bullfighting posters. This collection is housed in the Salón de Carteles, which constitutes a singular art gallery containing contributions from foreign artists such as Larry Rivers, Fernando Botero, Alex Katz and Francesco Clemente, and from national painters such as Eduardo Arroyo, Joaquín Sáenz, Juan Romero, Carmen Laffón, Pérez Villalta, Ricardo Cadenas, Manuel Salinas, Miquel Barceló, Francisco Reina, José María Sicilia and Félix de Cárdenas.
